About this Program

The Art Education program offers instruction in the theory and practical aspects of teaching art from kindergarten through high school in a variety of settings. The BFA in Art Education focuses on studio arts, art history and professional education course work. Practical hands on learning in schools, 博物馆, and cultural institutions provide students with the necessary skills needed to be successful Art Educators. Students also explore past and current issues in Art Education and ways in which political, 社会, and cultural viewpoints influence Art Educational practice and policy. Old Dominion University’s B.F.A. in Art Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), the Virginia Department of Education.

Program Highlights

  • Students create and facilitate art workshops for youth at 博物馆 and cultural institutions in Hampton Roads as part of their capstone course work.

  • Students create hard copy and eportfolios, which include teaching philosophies, 简历, lesson plans, and studio art.

  • Students complete 100+ hours of practicum experience in public schools, 博物馆 and cultural institutions.

  • Students complete a final semester of student teaching in both elementary and secondary settings under a supervising art teacher.

Requirements

What are the requirements to apply for Art Education at ODU?
Students entering the Bachelor of Fine 艺术 program in Art Education should meet the minimum university admission requirements Undergraduate Admission.

All students must apply for and be admitted into the approved art education program. Students must meet the required criteria for admission by passing the Virginia Board of Education prescribed assessments and earn the minimum required grade point averages (GPA).  Application forms for admission to teacher education programs are available on the Teacher Education 服务s website, http://basilinfracon.com/tes, and are to be submitted to the art education program director or Art Department chair before being submitted to Teacher Education 服务s.
